Are Services Online?
Currently I am offering exclusively online therapy services. This is to maintain the health and safety of my clients and family during the coronavirus pandemic. I plan to re-open in-person therapy services in the future.
How Does Online Therapy Work?
Online therapy services are conducted through a video platform, similar to FaceTime or Skype, but with bank-level encrypted security. I use SimplePractice, which is a HIPAA compliant video platform. I also provide services through AmericanWell (Amwell). Because services are virtual, I am able to see people throughout the state of Nebraska.
After an appointment is made, you will receive an email with the link for your session.
All you need for telehealth services is an internet connection and a phone or computer with a camera.

Who Receives Counseling?
The thing is that just about everybody could use counseling at some point in their lives. As our society becomes more educated and the stigma of mental health decreases, more people are seeking out help. Nurses, teachers, law enforcement, farmers, single or new parents, construction workers, retirees, widows… and even counselors!
How Long Will Therapy Last?
That depends on the severity of symptoms you are struggling with, how many concerns you have, and what your goals are. My clients do often see fast results. Depending on the issue, you may only need brief services which typically last 4-6 sessions. As you set the tone and pace of therapy, we can make therapy as quick or comprehensive as you desire. You won’t be “stuck in therapy for years,” and I also won’t drop you out of therapy before you feel ready. Many of my current and past clients have found that their reason for starting therapy has been solved, but they decide to continue in order to work through other issues. It’s really up to you.
What About Confidentiality?
The law protects the relationship between a client and a counselor, and information cannot be disclosed to any third party without written permission from you. The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) enforces national confidential standards protecting your medical records and personal health information. Therapy and mental health are included under HIPAA protection.
Exceptions to confidentiality include:
- Suspected child abuse or dependant adult/elder abuse. I am required by law to report suspicions to the appropriate authorities immediately.
- In cases in which a threat of bodily harm towards another person is made, I am required to notify the police and inform the intended victim.
- If a client intends to harm himself or herself, I will make every effort to enlist their cooperation in insuring their safety. If they do not cooperate, I will take further measures to ensure their safety.
